Due to high number of orphans as a result of the HIV/AIDS scourge, many clever children are not able to continue with their education after the death of their parents. Most of these children are being left in the hands of their aging grandparents who can not take proper care. Others are being left in the hands of relatives some of whom abuse them sexually and physically.
Besides, Lack of higher education has led many such orphans to the streets; others are involved in drug abuse which has completely destroyed their lives. Some children get married immediately after dropping out of school despite their young age. Those who don’t get married become victims of early pregnancies, abortions, robbery and child prostitution. More than 75% of children who are orphans or from poor families do not join any Secondary School or College. This has seen poverty levels double in the last couple of years in Kenya . Brooklynn High School is here to offer an opportunity to learn to the needy in society
